Over 20 Years of Trusted Partnership
The partnership between Nuvodia and Philips spans nearly two decades as imaging workflows have evolved from film to fully digital ecosystems powered by cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence. The transformation has been dramatic and impactful.
Many of us remember the transition from film to those early image distribution systems, running over dial-up, ISDN, or DSL connections. My own career started managing the film library, with daily returns to the warehouse shelves sorted by terminal digit. Prior films were pulled each day, delivered to radiologists and returned in the following days. Stentor iSite PACS changed all of that for us. Groundbreaking technology at the time, it launched us into the world of web-based technology and digital image distribution.
In 2005, Stentor was acquired by Philips and with that, our partnership with a global healthcare technology leader was born. Philips IntelliSpace PACS thrived in enterprise image distribution, interoperability through open APIs, and its industry unique multi-tenant architecture. This multi-tenant architecture allowed Nuvodia to host a single instance of IntelliSpace PACS in our data center and share that infrastructure across multiple customers. The impact to patient care was immediate as priors became readily available for comparison. On the business side, this model pushed the cost of technology down, making a large enterprise solution affordable to sites performing fewer than 75,000 studies annually.
As the market and product matured, Philips continued to innovate by releasing features that improved efficiency, security, and architecture. Advanced workflow modules were released, including modules to better route studies to the right radiologist at the right time. Integrated mammography interpretation was released. UDM (Universal Data Manager) was also released, providing enhanced image lifecycle management support. At Inland Imaging, we developed RadWorkFlow and wrapped it around the IntelliSpace platform to further optimize our operations through rule-based radiologist assignment and on-line data capture for the patient histories.
With this week’s announcement of our expanded partnership to resell HealthSuite Imaging (HSI), Nuvodia and Philips continue to innovate for the future. Embracing cloud technology, HSI leverages AWS storage architecture, increasing resiliency, scalability and distribution. When an on-premise solution is desired or necessary, the HSI hybrid solution provides a local instance of database and image caching that synchronizes in real time with the cloud. This approach offers the best of both worlds.
The collaboration between Philips technology and Nuvodia services promises to continue to deliver comprehensive solutions that will streamline workflow efficiency and improve patient outcomes.
